Electrical FAQs
There are many reasons why your house might need to be rewired. Many older homes in the UK haven’t had electrical work done in at least 25 years. This is because switching causes a lot of trouble, so most people wait until they sell the home to do it.
If you have an old fuse box instead of a modern consumer unit or if the plug sockets are connected to the skirting boards, it’s time to think about rewiring. If you are buying a house and it needs to be rewired, this should usually show up in your building report (done by a separate surveyor, not your mortgage lender). In these situations, rewiring should be one of your top goals because there is a risk of a fire or being killed by electricity.
When should a house’s plumbing be changed?
Rewiring may also be needed if you are making changes to your home. For example, if you are having an extension built, the new rooms will need power. If you are adding an extension or a loft conversion, you will need more wiring to power the new part of your home.
In some cases, you may want to rent out a house and have to follow safety rules for renters.
No matter why you need to change the wires in your house, Madsan can help. We will work with you to make a plan for rewiring your home, taking into account the small details that can make all the difference.
Such as lighting, sockets, and switches for your yard, under-cabinet lighting in your kitchen, and extra plugs and phone sockets that give you more options for furniture placement and smart home installation.
All of the rewiring we do is licenced and certified by NICEIC, and all of our electricians are trained to the highest standards.
If you are a homeowner and rent out your property, you are required by law to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report done. Every 5 years or after a change of occupancy, you must have an EICR done to make sure that the installation meets the latest version of BS7671, if necessary.
If your installation isn’t working right or you keep tripping the circuit breaker, it’s a good idea to get an EICR done. This will give you an idea of the state of the wiring in your home.
PAT stands for Portable Appliance Testing, and it is used to test any electrical device that can be moved and linked or disconnected from an electrical source.
It is important to make sure that any electrical equipment that could hurt someone is in good shape. So, if you own a business, are a landlord, use tools, or are in charge of a building, you should have PAT testing done regularly.
Our electricians are fully licenced City and Guilds experts with NICEIC approval who adhere to British Standards BS 7671.
Most of the work we do comes with a 12-month guarantee on the quality of the work. This is to give you peace of mind.
Materials and parts installed by Madsan will be covered by a promise or warranty from the company that made them. This usually makes sure that broken things are fixed or changed within a certain amount of time, usually 12 months.
